Artist Statement

Previously one of the 'Leamington Studio Artists' and now a member of the National Acrylic Painters Association, my work aims to capture in a loose style the colour and light of the water, rocks, vegetation and sands, working with simple forms and colour blocks in order to create a unique view of the landscapes around us.

I've always sought ways to work boldly and loosely, focusing on shape, colour and light. Hence my use of knives for painting with. They allow me to get the effects I want in my work without getting caught up in precise detail and distractions.

My early work touched on contemporary still life, focusing on shape and colour. I then moved on to painting the landscape in terms of our villages with their traditional cottages, again working primarily with shape. Wishing to work more loosely my aim now is in trying to capture the dynamics of the sea and coastline, especially of areas such as Lancashire, where I am originally from.
